Let’s Talk Addiction and Mindset- With Dr. Ellie Katz

Dr. Ellie Katz is a leading practitioner of holistic psychotherapy. For the last 49 years, her eclectic interventions for her patients have featured innovative approaches to using meditation, guided thinking and the Bach Flower Remedies. With decades of working in the field, Dr. Ellie Katz has concluded that we all have attachments we would be better without. In her writing, as author of 3 books, Dr. Katz sets out to tackle the everyday face of addiction, exploring root causes, personal struggles and the gift of recovery.

In this episode Dr. Ellie Katz discusses her 6 key behavioral principles that she uses to work with individuals overcoming addiction. The beauty of these principles is that I consider them just as valuable to helping anyone desiring change and peace of mind to restore serenity back into their lives.
These principles are the following:

  1. Good Mood and Hope.
  2. Meditation and Relaxation
  3. Love and Kindness
  4. Forgiveness
  5. Flexiblity
  6. Discipline

Dr. Katz dives into these principles on the episode and explains how they are crucial to living a life where we control our emotions and impulses, and how rejecting these principles can lead us down a path of self-destruction.

Dr. Katz is also the Author of 3 wonderful books that can be found and purchased online:
“Love and Kisses From my Padded Cell” : A compendium of the personal stories of ten recovering addicts. Dr. Katz gives voice to ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances, offering a nonjudgmental glimpse into what individuals are willing to do in the service of their irresistible urges.
“When Sane People Do Insane Things”: A practical guide to the enrichment of mental health. The book elaborates on what is essential and what is hazardous, offering the reader an opportunity to help himself reach the most precious gift: a life well-lived.
“My Last Summer as a Fat Girl”: In her memoir, Dr. Katz opens up about the events that have given her life its miraculous shape. She invites the reader on a personal journey as she investigates the powerful role food has played in her biography.
